Weybridge, Surrey, Town Garden | White House
A contemporary, botanical sanctuary in rural Weybridge, Surrey. With its modern garden rooms and creative contemporary planting, this garden design compliments and elevates this newly refurbished house.
The client desired a garden to complement the new open plan kitchen, so that meals could be enjoyed with a panoramic view of the vibrant flora. Seamlessly accessed from the kitchen room is a large entertaining patio, panelled with a backdrop of cedar slats and evergreen Magnolia pleached trees, to maintain seclusion and privacy. An ash grey porcelain was chosen for the patio to connect to the property. The modern style of the house is harmoniously reflected in the seamless geometry of the garden. A cool palette of colours throughout including peach, purples, whites and blues creates a stylish serenity.
The design makes a virtue of two previously awkward and disjointed spaces. We created two clearly defined gardens, formal and informal spaces. A clean cut stepping stone path bordered by low level planting elegantly connects the two spaces. In the rear space a garden building and children’s play area are screened with a linear cedar wood slated partition. The main garden is kept formal with a self binding gravel path enhancing the geometric lawn and juxtaposed with the vibrant verdant organic forms of the planting beds.
Mature trees anchor the garden, create visual strength, and natural cover. The carefully crafted planting palette surrounding the lawns have a rhythmic virtuosity encouraged by the generous bed width. Magnolia grandifloras run alongside to provide screening and repeated Amelanchier Lamarkii multi-stems offer structure. The bed width creates a feeling of seclusion, and substance, and creates space for a tranquil seating area. A place to pause and contemplate the beauty of it all.
